In 2017, EM-PLAST LLC started production of biodegradable, environmentally friendly shrink polyolefin film. In April 2016, an agreement was signed for the use of DCP-128 biodegradable additive supplied by EPI Environmental Plastics Inc. Canada. Together with EPI Environmental Plastics Inc., laboratory tests and analyses were carried out to create a biodegradable polyolefin film that meets all international quality and safety standards.
The degradation of polyolefins in the environment takes more than 30 years. Biodegradable polyolefin film produced by EM-PLAST LLC will decompose in 24–36 months when exposed to the elements (ultraviolet, water and heat).
The use of our films minimizes the harmful environmental impact. The DCP-128 additive plays the role of a catalyst that facilitates the disintegration of the film into smaller fragments, which undergo the decomposition process faster. It makes up 1 % of the total mass of the base material. The additive does not start exerting effect immediately after the packaging is produced, but 18 months later, when the packaging has already completed its life cycle and ended up in a landfill. At the landfill, during storage, the film will disintegrate into smaller fragments, which will eventually turn into humus.
